You have only one health.
This is not a secret. This is not something new. You have only one health, and you have to do what you can in order to protect it.
Understand this: making comics is a very sedentary job. It calls for a lot of sitting. Sitting for long periods of time is extremely unhealthy. So, by extension, creating comics is bad for your physical health. We all know this.
It’s even worse in America, because we’re unhealthy almost by default. The food we eat is highly processed and pumped full of chemicals. (Really, unless you’re living on a farm, growing your own food and slaughtering your own animals, most of what we eat here in America isn’t optimal for our health.) We eat a lot of processed foods, a ton of sugars and foods that turn into fat, we don’t drink enough pure water (not sport drinks), and we don’t come anywhere near doing enough exercise. We don’t even like walking from the car to the store if the parking lot is too big.
I’m not trying to rail against the unhealthy lifestyle we have here in America. I just want you to understand that you have only one health, and you have to do what you can to protect it. This means you have to step away from the desk on a regular basis and do something that raises your heart rate for a little while. You have to do this on a regular basis. And you have to eat correctly. By correctly, I mean just that: the right amount of food for your body type, and the correct types of foods in the right combinations.
For my own part, I’m a big believer in hard work and sweat. I believe in the programs of Body Beach, because they are filled with nothing but hard work and sweat and eating right. The workouts are challenging, but they can all be modified, and you can do them to your own level.
Again, you have only one health. You don’t have to be a model, you don’t have to be a fitness guru. You just have to protect your health so you can have a long and productive comics career (and life).
