We’re doing something just a tad different today. Today, we’re going to do a regular DD, and the Single Comic Review will come tomorrow. We should be back on track next week.
I was very happy a couple of days ago. I was leaving work, and I heard that Netflix’s Daredevil series was getting a second season. 11 days. That’s how long it took for them to decide to do a second season. That’s not long at all.
Now, I understand about binge watching. I generally understand how television works: you watch shows, but you get paid advertising that help pay for the show. How does Netflix decide to do a second season of an original show? How many new signups are there that justify the cost of something like that? I don’t know, since there are a few Netflix original/only series. House of Cards, Orange is the New Black, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Marco Polo, and there are more on the way.
What can we expect to see next season? I don’t know. I have some ideas, though. Just some idle speculations.
The first one is Bullseye. No, I don’t expect to see him in the entire series, but near the end. A pawn of someone who comes in very late in the season. Probably stepping out of the shadows somewhere so that comic book readers will be raving for a third season.
Also Elektra. You can’t have Daredevil go too long without his love interest. She should show up late, as well. And she has to live throughout the entire third season, to show the love and them getting close. It’s the fourth season where she dies. (I know, I know, I’m getting ahead of myself.)
I don’t expect to see the Wilson Fisk back until late in the second season. Fisk is Magneto to Daredevil’s Xavier in this show—two sides of the same coin. However, with that being the case, you can’t use him as the only bad guy forever. There have to be other things going on. Daredevil has had a lot of enemies, but he’s only had 2 nemeses, and the first has already been carted to prison.
You also have to take into account the shape of the Marvel Cinematic Universe at the time, as well. I don’t know what changes will be wrought after Age of Ultron and whatever other movies come out before the next season.
I don’t know what or who the main villain will be. I don’t know if he and Karen Page will get together. I don’t know if Karen and Foggy will get together. I don’t know anything about the triangle they’re forming there. I do know that it’s going to be interesting to see how much they cleave to canon, and how far away from it they go. (Here is where Ben Urich could have been extremely helpful, especially since they now have Spider-Man, Ben could work at the Daily Bugle, and we could get a bit of cross-pollination that doesn’t involve Nick Fury.)
I’m excited. It’ll take a year, though. Stuff will be happening in the meantime. But I’m excited. And the stain of Ben Affleck has been almost completely washed away. DC can keep him.
